Vera Rena 18810201 Old Gold Brocade and Satin Evening Toilette Sewing Pattern

Item No.: 18810201 OLD GOLD BROCADE AND SATIN EVENING TOILETTE

Bust Size Range: 34–44 inches

Pattern Source: Reproduction of the original antique pattern from 1881 Harper's Bazaar
This opulent evening gown embodies the sophisticated fashion of the early 1880s. Crafted in old gold satin paired with matching brocade, it features the era’s iconic pronounced S-shaped silhouette, with a tightly cinched Basque waist and volume concentrated toward the rear. The design consists of a satin underskirt worn beneath a separate brocade overskirt, balancing rigid tailored construction and soft draped forms. It is ideal for formal evening engagements and Victorian historical costume recreation.
The satin underskirt is adorned with deep pleatings and matching fabric puffs along the hem, with additional puffed satin overlaying the front breadth for enhanced texture. The brocade overskirt includes front and back panels; front edges and hems feature two-inch deep facings. The rear panel attaches to the underskirt and uses interior ties to create a natural draped bustle shape without separate supports. The fitted Basque bodice is made of brocade, finished with corded piping along the neckline and lower hem. Lined sleeves are covered with shirred brocade and set neatly into armholes with aligned seam lines. The ensemble is completed with a long lace-trimmed crêpe lisse fichu fastened by a floral bouquet at the front waist, complemented by pearl and floral hair ornaments.
This pattern set includes all required pieces: overskirt front breadth, overskirt back breadth, bodice front, side form, bodice back half, upper sleeve and under sleeve. Comprehensive historical sewing instructions cover fabric estimation, pre-fitting workflow, traditional seam finishing, buckram hem support, weighted cord hem construction, waist belt assembly, hook-and-eye installation, complete boning preparation and shaping techniques, eyelet buttonholing, piping and bias binding methods. Professional tailoring guidance is provided to avoid fabric wrinkling and over-tightening after boning installation.
A0 full-scale printing instructions are provided. Print at 100% Actual Size with no scaling. A 3-inch calibration test square is included to eliminate dimensional inaccuracies caused by improper print settings.
